01Context

Botto is a decentralized AI artist. It generates artwork, and a community votes on which pieces get minted and sold.

I joined the small, global team at ElevenYellow to help grow its community and commercial reach.

02Opportunity

The idea of an AI artist governed by a community is hard to explain and easy to dismiss. Growth depended on getting the right people to take it seriously: collectors, the art world and the crypto community.

03Approach

Much of Botto's buying interest came from collector DAOs, communities that pool money to buy major one-of-one works. So I started building relationships with them directly.

I also worked on partnerships, campaigns and events that put Botto in front of new audiences, including Sotheby's-related activations and exhibitions online and in person. On social, I ran targeted initiatives across X, Instagram and Discord.

04Execution

One example: a series of live conversations with collector communities, starting with a live X Spaces with Club 721 in March 2022.

I worked with a team of 20+ people spread across time zones, which meant a lot of async work and a lot of ownership.

During my time there, Botto's work brought in more than $1.5M in sales. That was a team effort, and my part was the partnerships, campaigns and events. The social following grew by more than 15,000.

06What I learned

With a new category, community comes before conversion. People buy into the story before they buy the product.
